ROV Esports — From Mobile Game to Thailand's Greatest Esports Phenomenon
The complete history and story of Arena of Valor, the mobile MOBA that made Thailand one of Asia's most respected esports nations
In Thailand's esports landscape, one game has stood at the top for over a decade — not a PC title, not a console game, but a mobile game called ROV, known internationally as Arena of Valor. The RoV Pro League has become the stage that proves Thai mobile esports can compete with the world's finest.
What Is ROV?
ROV (Realm of Valor), known globally as Arena of Valor, is a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena) mobile game developed by TiMi Studios, a subsidiary of Tencent Games, and distributed in Thailand by Garena Thailand.
In the game, two teams of five players battle to destroy the opposing team's Core — the final structure at the heart of the enemy base — across a three-lane map. Each player selects a Hero with unique abilities, combining individual skill with team strategy and real-time decision making in matches that typically last 15 to 20 minutes.
The Rise of ROV in Thailand
ROV launched in Thailand in 2016 and became a national phenomenon with remarkable speed. As a mobile title requiring no expensive hardware, it was accessible to players across every income level throughout the country.
Within a few years, ROV had tens of millions of registered accounts in Thailand and became the most popular game in the country among both casual players and the professional esports community. Garena Thailand developed ROV-specific Hero characters inspired by Thai mythology, literature and culture, creating a deep emotional connection between the game and its Thai player base that no other title in the market could replicate.
RoV Pro League — The Heart of Thai ROV Esports
The RoV Pro League (RPL) is the highest tier of professional ROV competition in Thailand, organised by Garena Thailand twice annually in Summer and Winter seasons.
The RoV Pro League has now run continuously for over 17 seasons, demonstrating the sustained growth and resilience of ROV as a professional esports discipline in Thailand.
Competition format: Eight to nine professional teams compete in a Round Robin Group Stage before advancing to a Playoffs bracket, with the Grand Final held at major national venues in Bangkok.
RoV Pro League 2026 Summer — A Historic Edition
RoV Pro League 2026 Summer ran from 31 January to 5 April 2026, featuring nine competing clubs and a total prize pool of approximately $328,000, under the concept "DREAM RISER."
Buriram United Esports claimed the Season 17 championship and a total prize of 6 million Thai Baht, with "Deawwy" awarded Finals MVP honours.
A landmark addition to this season was the inaugural Miss RoV Tournament 2026 — the first all-female competitive ROV tournament in history — attracting over 418 teams from across Thailand. The two finalist teams earned the right to represent Thailand at the international Arena of Valor Premier League (APL) 2026 in Vietnam.
RoV Pro League 2025 Winter — FULL SENSE Makes History
The RoV Pro League 2025 Winter, the 16th edition of the series, concluded on 26 October 2025 by crowning a first-time winner.
FULL SENSE claimed their first-ever RPL title with a commanding 4-1 victory over Bacon Time in the Grand Final at BITEC Bangna Live Hall. The prize pool totalled $309,020, with the champion taking home over $183,000.
The Grand Final reached a peak of 278,951 concurrent viewers, making the 2025 Winter split one of only three seasons in RPL history to surpass the 250,000 peak viewer mark.
Arena of Valor International Championship — The Global Stage
The AIC is the highest-level international competition in Arena of Valor, gathering the top teams from Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan and other regions in an annual world championship.
AIC 2025 was held in Vietnam from 17 November to 7 December 2025, featuring 12 teams from Thailand, Vietnam, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The tournament reached a Peak Viewership of 742,342 concurrent viewers and accumulated over 21 million total hours watched.
The Key Teams of Thai ROV
Buriram United Esports The esports division of the famous Buriram United football club, one of the most supported teams in Thai ROV with a passionate national fanbase — and the most recent RPL champions.
Bacon Time One of the most decorated organisations in RPL history, Bacon Time has been the perennial rival of FULL SENSE, creating some of the most dramatic and memorable series in league history.
FULL SENSE First-time RPL champions in 2025 Winter, FULL SENSE demonstrated that the league's competitive landscape remains genuinely open and that new dynasties can always emerge.
ROV at the Asian Games
The Arena of Valor Asian Games Version was selected as one of the official esports events at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. China won gold, while Thailand claimed bronze — confirming that Thai ROV players are internationally competitive at the highest level of organised multi-sport competition.
Final Thought
ROV is not simply a mobile game. It is a cultural phenomenon in Thailand that has created professional athletes, built passionate fan communities, shaped an industry, and shown millions of young Thai people that gaming can be a career worthy of genuine pride.
Across 17 seasons of the RoV Pro League, through Asian Games glory, through first-time champions and historic crowd records, the story of ROV in Thailand shows no signs of slowing down.
